Coronation Street star Chris Gascoyne teases relapse for Peter

Published

on

Coronation Street star Chis Gascoyne has teased a relapse may be on the cards for Peter Barlow. This follows the climax of the soap‘s  long-running serial killer Stephen storyline.

In the episode (which aired Friday, October 13), Peter brought an end to Stephen’s reign of terror by running him down with his taxi. This came as Stephen took a terrified Jenny Connor hostage, threatening her with a broken bottle in front of their horrified family and neighbours.

But as he released Jenny, Peter came careening down the street and mowed Stephen down in a car.

Hw will Peter cope with the aftermath of killing a man? And how will this affect Chris’s upcoming exit from Coronation Street?

Speaking out following the episode, Corrie star Chris Gascoyne revealed what viewers can expect to happen next for his character, Peter.

“This is where Stephen’s story ends and mine picks up,” Chris said. “Peter is a man who is in deep conflict with himself. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter how it happened, he has killed someone.”

He continued: “It is impossible to imagine what that must feel like. Could you ever rest, could you sleep. He actually says “I have taken another human being out of this world forever, what kind of person does that? What does that make me?” And he is terrified.”

Peter Barlow to relapse after killing Stephen?

Chris went on to discuss Peter’s state of mind in the following days. “He is in hell and he is fighting through fear, but when he knows that Jenny is pretty adamant she would have been ok, that really starts to affect his mental state of mind.”

He continued: “As we know, Peter has been through a lot and there is no doubt that he will be tempted to drink which really would be a decision to kill the pain and kill himself through alcohol, he knows that.”

“This is a real danger zone for him. He has taken a man’s life and even if he goes to prison he will have to live with that, he will always suffer. It will be interesting to see how he deals with his demons, Chris said.”

Coronation Street spoilers: Peter arrested for killing Stephen

Chris continued: “He has been arrested on suspicion of murder, he is struggling with his demons. He has always had lots of enemies but at the end of the day he is his own worst enemy. He is the one that has suffered at his own hands the most emotionally, and we can see this starting to happen again.”

Chris went on to say: “He is facing prison, the drink is on his mind again, Audrey wants him to pay for what he has done. It is a turbulent time ahead.”

Indeed, Coronation Street spoilers for next week’s episodes have revealed that the police will arrest Peter for his actions. Will Peter go to prison for killing Stephen?

Chris Gascoyne reveals details of Coronation Street exit

When asked how Peter might leave the street, Chris said: “Well he has just killed someone so there are so many storylines that can come out of that and so many reasons that he might not be around any more.”

“All I will say is I am delighted with my exit storyline, the scripts are superb and I can’t wait to see the reaction to how Peter leaves the street.”

Viewers watching the latest episode of BGT 2024 on Saturday (May 18) evening reckon they know how an act pulled off their spectacular magic trick.

Illusionists Jay and Joss, a married couple, performed a wedding-themed magic routine of magic tricks, leaving judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Bruno Tonioli, and Amanda Holden stunned.

The couple explained they haven’t had their honeymoon yet. And after asking the judges to provide a series of numbers relating to how much they could spend, and when their honeymoon would be, Jay and Joss blew observers away when they played a video on stage which matched up with the judges’ “completely random” picks.

It’s just blown my mind!

“I swear none of it was planned in advance, it’s just blown my mind!” a gobsmacked Simon pronounced.

However, some of those watching at home had theories about how the magic trick could be achieved, and Simon’s statement could also be true.

Ultimately, some social media users reckoned AI may have had a role to play in the presentation… although who can ever dismiss Jay and Joss’ magic are they are unlikely to reveal their secrets?

“Don’t they just have a pal backstage editing all that stuff into the video? #BGT,” one viewers shrugged.

Another cautioned: “Anything with pre-recorded footage should be prohibited #BGT.”

“Isn’t video editing magic? #BGT,” claimed a third person.

Furthermore, a fourth alleged: “Could easily have used live digital effects to create that on screen! #BGT.”

“I mean it is just someone hastily editing some pre-recorded footage, but OK #BGT,” alleged another.

While someone else joked: “The judges on #BGT were reacting to Jay and Joss’s magic act almost as if they have never heard of CGI or AI editing technology.”

Ban children’s acts, some viewers insist

Viewers of BGT have tonight (Saturday May 18) had enough of a certain type of act, going by social media.

The latest episode of the ITV series hosted by Ant and Dec kicked off with Italian ventriloquists Daniele and Naimana singing opera with sheep.

Within a few minutes, those watching at home also saw K-Pop band Blitzers also perform.

But while there were some familiar tweets on social media questioning whether there were more foreign acts than British acts on display, more viewers seemed put out by the number of children taking part in the programme.

BGT tonight

Troll Dancers, made up of a troupe of brightly-costumed kids between 7 and 12 were the second act of the episode.

Later, the Phoenix Boys popped up with their routine, which was awarded a Golden Buzzer pass to the final by judge Bruno Tonioli.

But while all of the other judges – Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, and Amanda Holden – all gave ‘yeses’ to both groups as well, the approval wasn’t as unanimous from viewers.

How viewers reacted

Tough comments were posted online when the Troll Dancers were on screen – and similar comments about younger performer arose again when the Phoenix Boys took to the stage.

Many show fans were impressed, of course. And judges’ compliments including praising the dancers for being “dazzling” and “sparkling”, as well as Simon concluding: “I thought it was brilliant.”

Some very harsh critics at home, however, did not agree.

“Too many kids acts! #BGT” one tweet began.

“No, no, no, no, no – [blank] off kids #BGT, ” seethed another.

Should be a no children policy.

While someone else insisted: “Should be a no children policy #BGT.”

‘Just ordinary’

Others moaned about how repetitive they found seeing children dancing.

“Kids doing a [blank] dance for the 800th time. 4 yeses #BGT,” grumbled one social media user.

“FFS more screaming kids!! #BGT @BGT,” complained another.

A third person wrote: “Don’t want to be horrible to them as they are kids but how many of these acts have we seen on BGT?”

“Every town in the country has a kids dance school. These are no different to hundreds of kids dance classes. Sorry but they need to be better than that. Just ordinary,” wrote a fourth.

A fifth commented sarcastically: “Great, some more dancing kids, was starting to get withdrawal symptoms #BGT #BritainsGotTalent.”

And a sixth put it: “I am bored [blank]less of dancing kids.”

Iconic TV duo Ant and Dec have discussed their friendship with one another after announcing a hiatus from Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

The television presenters attended the BAFTA Television Awards on Sunday (May 12) and got candid with Drag Race judge Michelle Visage on the red carpet about their friendship.

Ant and Dec would ‘bicker’ when they were younger

From SM:TV Live and Britain’s Got Talent to I’m A Celeb And Saturday Night Takeaway, Ant and Dec have remained a popular presenting duo for several decades.

Despite great chemistry on screen, Michelle asked Ant and Dec whether they ever get “sick of one other”.

While Ant simply stated “no”, he confessed that the pair would “bicker more” when they were younger.

“We would have big differences of opinion and we would play games as we’re competitive and one of us would storm out if we didn’t the game,” Ant continued.

“You know who I’m saying!” he joked as his head pointed over to Dec.

Expressing that they’ve chilled out since growing up, they agreed with Michelle that they’ve got over the “bumpy” parts.

“Yeah, exactly,” said Ant. “The older we’ve got, we’re chill, we’re chilled now.”

‘Sometimes you have to give each other space’

Working together since the age of 13, the key to Ant and Dec’s success has been giving their friendship breathing space.

“I think anytime you come back together, you have to almost relearn each other again but because of that, you have a deeper respect for one another and a deeper love for one another,” Ant told Fault Magazine.

Maintaining their close friendship hasn’t “come naturally,” however.

“Sometimes you have to work with friendships, and sometimes you have to compromise and sometimes you have to give each other space and time and whatever,” Ant added.
