On May 7, 2025, India carried out airstrikes in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These strikes, called Operation Sindoor, were in response to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 civilians lost their lives.

Here’s how different countries around the world reacted:

India

India said it had to take action to stop terrorists from attacking again. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said more than 100 terrorists were killed in the operation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India won’t sit back if such attacks continue, but also added that India doesn’t want war.

This isn’t the first time India has hit back. In 2016, it carried out surgical strikes after an army base was attacked in Uri. In 2019, after the Pulwama attack, India sent jets to bomb terror camps in Balakot, Pakistan.

Pakistan

Pakistan said India attacked its land without reason and called it a “cowardly act.” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan will answer in its own way. The country claimed it had shot down some Indian jets, but India has denied that. Many people in Pakistan came out to protest, and the government sent some Indian diplomats back.

United States

The U.S. asked both countries to stay calm. It said it’s worried the fight could get worse and hurt peace in the region. They want India and Pakistan to talk things out peacefully.

United Kingdom

The UK said the attack in Pahalgam was sad and offered support to the families of the victims. It also asked both countries to avoid more fighting and try to settle the matter peacefully.

Russia

Russia said it supports India’s right to protect itself. It also said the killing of innocent people in Pahalgam was wrong. But Russia wants both countries to talk and not fight.

China

China said it’s watching the situation and wants both India and Pakistan to stop fighting and sit down for talks.

United Nations

The UN asked India and Pakistan to show self-control. It said problems should be solved with talks, not with weapons.

Israel

Israel said it supports India and that every country has the right to defend its people from terrorists. Israel also said it stands with India in this tough time.

Japan

Japan said it was worried about what’s going on and hopes both countries will stay calm and avoid war.

Final Thoughts

This situation has reminded many people of earlier clashes between India and Pakistan—like the 1999 Kargil war, and the Balakot strikes in 2019. The whole world is now hoping both sides will calm down, talk, and avoid another big fight.
