After India’s airstrikes on May 7, 2025, nine airports in northern India have been closed for safety reasons. These include airports in Srinagar, Jammu, and Chandigarh, and the closure will last until May 10, 2025, 5:29 AM IST.
Airports Affected
The airports that are closed are:
-
Srinagar
-
Jammu
-
Chandigarh
-
Leh
-
Jodhpur
-
Amritsar
-
Bhuj
-
Jamnagar
-
Rajkot
This has led to flight cancellations by airlines like Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet. Some international flights are also being changed to avoid these airports.
Why Are They Closed?
These closures are happening after India’s airstrikes on Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which were in response to an attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 Indian soldiers. In return, Pakistan also stopped flights, which is affecting air travel.
What You Should Know
This isn’t the first time airports in India have closed because of security issues. In 2019, after the Pulwama attack, Pakistan also suspended flights, and airports in India were temporarily shut down.
If you are traveling, make sure to check with your airline to see if your flight is canceled or if you can change it. Airlines are helping passengers by offering reschedules or refunds.
This situation is still changing, so it’s important to keep checking for updates.
