India carried out a strong military action called “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, 2025, to destroy terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This was in response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where 26 Hindu tourists were killed on April 22.

What Did India Use in the Attack?

The Indian Air Force used its Rafale fighter jets to hit the targets. These jets used two powerful weapons:

  • SCALP Missiles – These are long-range missiles that can hit targets very accurately.

  • HAMMER Bombs – These are smart bombs that don’t miss their target.

India also used SkyStriker drones for the first time in real fighting. These are small flying machines that wait in the air and hit the enemy at the perfect time.

The attack lasted only 23 minutes but hit 9 major terrorist locations, including places like Bahawalpur, Muzaffarabad, Kotli, and Sialkot. These places are known for sheltering groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

What Happened After the Attack?

India said the strike was successful. It claimed that about 70 terrorists were killed and many terror training camps were destroyed.

This is not the first time India has done such strikes.

  • In 2016, India did surgical strikes after the Uri attack.

  • In 2019, after the Pulwama attack, India bombed a big terror camp in Balakot, Pakistan.

Why the Name “Operation Sindoor”?

The name “Sindoor” comes from the red powder worn by married Hindu women. This was chosen because in the Pahalgam attack, only men were killed, leaving many women widowed. The name is a way to remember and honor those families.

How Did Pakistan React?

Pakistan said India crossed the border and attacked its land. They claimed they shot down five Indian jets, but India denied this. Pakistan also fired shells across the border, and sadly, some civilians on both sides were killed.
