In a big operation, the Indian Army killed 22 Maoists in a fight in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, on May 7, 2025. This attack was part of a larger operation called ‘Operation Sankalp’, which is aimed at removing Maoist groups from the area.

The fight took place in the forests of Bijapur, where the army had gathered information about Maoist leaders hiding there. The battle lasted for hours, and in the end, 22 Maoists were killed. The army also found a lot of weapons and explosives.

Past Operations

This isn’t the first time such an operation has taken place. In 2016, after a deadly attack by Maoists on Indian soldiers in Bastar, the army started taking action against these groups. Over the years, security forces have been trying to drive Maoists out of areas in Chhattisgarh, especially in the Bastar region, which has seen many Maoist activities.

So far this year, 168 Maoists have been killed in different operations, with most of them being in Bastar. These operations have led to the recovery of weapons, explosives, and other supplies used by the Maoists to carry out attacks.

The Goal of These Operations

The main goal of operations like ‘Operation Sankalp’ is to bring peace and safety back to these areas. For years, Maoist groups have been causing harm to local communities, stopping development, and hurting innocent people.

While the army has made progress, the fight is far from over. There are still challenges in completely removing the Maoists from the region.
