New Delhi, May 7, 2025 – India carried out a military operation called Operation Sindoor last night, targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This action comes just days after five Indian soldiers were killed in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

Soon after the strike, the Indian government shut down the Kartarpur Corridor, which is used by Sikh pilgrims to visit a holy site in Pakistan. Officials said this was done because of security concerns and is only a temporary step.

What Happened in the Operation?

Indian fighter jets and special forces attacked at least three terror camps believed to be training places for terrorists. These camps were in PoK and deep inside Pakistan. Early reports say that some important terrorist leaders may have been killed, but the full details are still being checked.

An official said, “The goal of the operation was to send a clear message that India will not stay silent after losing our soldiers.”

Why Was the Kartarpur Corridor Closed?

The Kartarpur Corridor lets Sikh pilgrims from India visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan without needing a visa. It opened in November 2019, and since then, more than 3 lakh (300,000) people have used it.

But after the strike, intelligence agencies warned that the corridor could be at risk. So, it has been closed for now to keep people safe.

An Indian government spokesperson said, “We respect all religions and the faith of our Sikh brothers and sisters, but right now, people’s safety has to come first.”

Has India Done This Before?

Yes. India has taken similar action in the past:

  • In 2016, Indian soldiers carried out surgical strikes across the border after 19 soldiers were killed in the Uri attack.
  • In 2019, the Indian Air Force bombed a terror camp in Balakot, Pakistan, after 40 Indian soldiers were killed in the Pulwama attack.

Both these operations were big news and received strong public support in India.

What’s Next?

So far, Pakistan has not responded officially. But there is movement along the Line of Control (LoC), and the Indian Army is watching closely.

People hope things don’t get worse, especially since both India and Pakistan are nuclear-armed countries and have had many clashes in the past.
