Maharashtra Mumbai Election Results 2024 LIVE Updates: The 36 assembly constituencies of Mumbai voted along with the rest of the 252 seats of Maharashtra in a single phase on November 20 and the counting of votes is underway today (November 23). The Election Commission officers across the state have made proper arrangements and tightened security near strong rooms and counting centres.

Mumbai is divided into 36 assembly constituencies, 10 in the island city and 26 in the suburban district. A total of 410 candidates are contesting this time; among them are 105 from the island city and 315 from the suburbs.

Maharashtra is witnessing a fight between two of the state’s main alliances, Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress respectively. The Mahayuti alliance, in power, has major parties apart from the BJP, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinda-led Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) Ajit Pawar faction. On the other hand is the MVA, which, apart from Congress, consists of Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction).

The final voter turnout of the state this time stood at 65.11%—also the highest in the last six elections at least. Even as Mumbai City (52.07%) and Mumbai Suburban (55.77%) recorded lower turnouts than the state average, most seats reported better voter participation than in 2019.

This is the first time that a notice for bringing a motion to remove the Vice President has been moved in the Rajya Sabha.

The BJP-led union government on Tuesday hit out at opposition for submitting notice of no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, saying that the notice is just a diversionary tactics of the opposition.

The opposition has moved the motion against Dhankhar accusing him of bias and ‘partisan functioning’. The opposition claimed that he favoured the ruling party during House proceedings and stifled their voice.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju slammed the Congress-led INDIA bloc for disrespecting the dignity of chair of both the houses during the ongoing winter session of the Parliament.

“I condemn the step of those 60 MPs who have signed the notice. The opposition disrespect the dignity of Chair, be it in Rajya Sabha or Lok Sabha… Congress party and their alliance continuously behaved wrongly by not following the direction of the Chair,” he said.

He praised the Vice President, saying, “Dhankhar Ji comes from a humble background. He always talks about farmers’ and people’s welfare inside and outside the parliament. He guides us. We respect him. The notice that has been served NDA has the majority and we all have faith in the chairman. We are happy with the way he guides the House…”
