‘BJP Ideological Opponent, DMK Political Adversary’: Actor-Turned-Politician Vijay At TVK Rally
Last Updated:
Vijay assured his supporters there would be no “adjustment politics or compromise,” adding that Tamil Nadu’s political landscape needs transformative change.
Tamil superstar turned politician and founder of Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, said on Sunday that the BJP is the ideological opponent of the TVK while the DMK is its political adversary.
“There is a group that has been creating divisions within society. Those who create divisions are our first enemy. Those who claim to uphold Dravidian ideology but are exploiting Tamil Nadu as a family enterprise are our next rivals. The BJP is our ideological opponent while the DMK is our political adversary,” said Vijay addressing a massive gathering in Villupuram district’s Vikravandi.
He also pledged to follow the legacies of Dravidian icon Periyar, former Chief Minister Kamaraj, B.R. Ambedkar, Rani Velu Nachiyar, and Anjali Ammal.
He assured his supporters there would be no “adjustment politics or compromise,” adding that Tamil Nadu’s political landscape needs transformative change.
“I have not entered politics for personal gain but out of social commitment. I may be a newcomer in politics but my commitment remains undaunted. Our party’s core enemies are corruption and communalism,” Vijay said.
He also accused the DMK of deceiving the public under the guise of the Dravida model, calling the DMK government anti-people.
The superstar-cum-politician also announced that his party would contest all 234 seats in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, emphasising that TVK’s campaign is a serious bid for victory, with no retreat from electoral politics.
Vijay also hinted at power-sharing, saying, “We will provide a share of power to any political party that supports us,” indirectly referencing DMK alliance partners such as the Congress and Dalit party, VCK, who have previously sought power-sharing in Tamil Nadu.
He assured that TVK would not act as a front for any other political party. After years of anticipation, Vijay officially launched TVK on February 2, 2024, and unveiled the party’s flag and symbol on August 22 at the party headquarters in Chennai.
Vijay’s fan club, the All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (AITVMI), contested 169 seats in the October 2021 local body elections, winning 113 seats—outperforming the parties of fellow celebrities Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) and Seeman’s Naam Tamizhar Katchi (NTK), both of which failed to secure any seats.
This success was a stepping stone for Vijay’s official foray into politics.
His entry brings a fresh dynamic to a Tamil political landscape long dominated by Dravidian heavyweights, DMK and AIADMK, while observers are watching closely for Vijay’s next moves.

Actor-Politician Vijay’s Party TVK Opposes ‘One Nation One Election’
Last Updated:
In one of the resolutions, the TVK opposed the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal of the BJP while also another resolution was passed against the NEET. The TVK said that they want to abolish the NEET and revert the state list.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) under Tamil superstar Vijay held an executive meeting on Sunday and passed 29 unanimous resolutions while opposing the Central government’s ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal and National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET).
In one of the resolutions, the TVK opposed the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal of the BJP while also another resolution was passed against the NEET. The TVK said that they want to abolish the NEET and revert the state list.
The party also lashed out against the DMK for delaying the state-wide caste-based census and also demanded the state of the euro revert to the monthly electricity billing system.
The party office bearers also stood a few moments in silence in memory of six people who died in road accidents while on the way to attend the first state conference of the party held at Vikkaravandi in Villupuram district on October 31.
Among the dead were two office bearers of the party including one state-level office bearer.
Vijay also called upon his party cadres and leaders to oppose all criticisms levelled against the party in a constructive manner and with valid points. He called upon the cadres to be respectful against adversaries even on social media.
Sources said that the meeting will also finalise the roadmap for Vijay’s upcoming statewide tour, set to begin in December.
Vijay’s statewide yatra is expected to kick off on December 2, starting in Coimbatore and culminating with a large public gathering in Tirunelveli on December 27.
During the tour, Vijay aims to connect with people, sharing his vision and gathering public opinion along the way.
The meeting also reportedly will touch on strategies to counter political rivals, such as Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman, who recently criticised Vijay.
Vijay’s rally at Vikkaravandi attracted over 300,000 attendees, a notable event in Tamil Nadu politics. During the rally, he criticised both the DMK and BJP, labelling the BJP as his ideological adversary and the DMK a political opponent.
Vijay accused the DMK of being a family-centric party that exploits the “Dravidian” identity for personal gain while condemning the BJP for divisive politics.
In response, DMK leader and State Law Minister S. Raghupathy dismissed Vijay and TVK as the “C team” of the BJP.
BJP Tamil Nadu spokesperson A.N.S Prasad suggested that Vijay, rather than stirring up political passions, should prioritise the welfare of the people.
He also encouraged Vijay to recognise the support he has received from multiple political factions, including the BJP, as he embarks on his political journey.
Vijay’s political profile has been on the rise since his fan club, the All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (AITVMI), won 115 out of 169 seats it contested in the 2021 Tamil Nadu local body elections.
In contrast, Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) and Seeman’s NTK did not secure any seats. This success has added weight to Vijay’s growing influence in the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.

Protecting Constitution Is India’s Primary Battle: Rahul Gandhi At Wayanad Rally
Last Updated:
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha pointed out that this is a fight between love and hatred.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday emphasised that the primary struggle in the country today is to protect and preserve the Constitution.
He said the Constitution of the country was not written with hatred, but with humility and love.
“The main fight in the country today, that is taking place, is the fight for the Constitution of our country. The protection that we get, the greatness of our country, all emerged from the Constitution,” the Lok Sabha MP said while addressing a corner meeting in Mananthavady here as part of the campaign for his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Priyanka is the Congress candidate for the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election.
“The Constitution was not written with anger or with hatred. It was written by the people who fought the British, the people who had suffered, who spent years and years and years in jail. And they wrote the Constitution with humility, with love and with affection,” he said.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha pointed out that this is a fight between love and hatred.
“A fight between confidence and insecurity. And if you truly want to win this fight, then you must help by removing anger from your heart, by removing hatred from your heart, and replacing them with love, humility and compassion,” he told the gathering.
Rahul Gandhi highlighted the qualities of her sister and shared nostalgic memories of their childhood.
He also said it was the first time he is seeking votes for his sister, who has campaigned for him, and their parents earlier.
“She is the person who went and hugged the girl who was implicated in my father’s (Rajiv Gandhi) assassination. She said to me after she came back after meeting Nalini, she went emotional and then she said to me that I’m feeling bad for her,” Rahul Gandhi recalled.
“That is the training that she has received. And to me, this is the type of politics that needs to be done in India. Not the politics of hatred, but politics of love and affection.” During the second phase of her campaign, Priyanka continued her tirade against the central government alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done everything for his business friends.
“Modi ji’s government works only for his big businessmen friends. His objective, is not to give you a better life. It is not to find new jobs for your young one who are educated. It is not to provide better health, education and well being of the people,” she alleged.
Priyanka accused the Modi government of dividing people, spreading hatred among them and taking away their rights, besides damaging democratic institutions.
“They attacked Rahul Gandhi Ji for fighting for people’s rights,” the Congress leader said.
She also mentioned her work with Mother Teresa and also about sister Rosebell who resides in Mananthavady.
Priyanka promised to continue her fight for the establishment of a medical college here with full health facilities.
In her speech, the Congress leader also highlighted night ban, traffic issues on Ghat Road, man-animal conflicts, tribals and agrarian issues in the mountain constituency.
Referring to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Programme (MGNREGA) which greatly benefited the tribal community, she alleged that the Centre’s funding for this programme and the job availability through the scheme have been reduced.
“We need to raise our voice in the Parliament, and all the platforms to push the government to increase the funding.” Priyanka Gandhi resumed her campaign from Sunday by holding public and corner meetings in the hill constituency with her brother Rahul Gandhi.
The Congress general secretary, who is making her electoral debut, will be in Kerala till November 7, according to her itinerary released by the party.
After the meeting at Gandhi Park in Mananthavady here, she attended corner meetings separately at Valad and Korom in Mananthavady Assembly constituency on Sunday.
Priyanka resumed her campaign for the by-poll amid criticism from rival candidates that she would visit the constituency like a guest or a seasonal festival.
The Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency consists of seven Assembly segments– Mananthavady (ST), Sulthan Bathery (ST) and Kalpetta in Wayanad district, Thiruvambady in Kozhikode district and Eranad, Nilambur, and Wandoor in Malappuram district.
The by-election for Wayanad LS seat was necessitated after Rahul Gandhi, who won the Lok Sabha polls from there and Rae Bareli constituency, decided to vacate Wayanad.
Voting in Wayanad will be held on November 13.
