Siddaramaiah had served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1996 to 1999 and from 2004 to 2005 while he was a member of the J.anata Dal and Janata Dal (Secular) respectively

Union Minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday accused Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of building a house illegally on a site allotted to a Dalit with a disability during his tenure as the deputy chief minister.

He said the allegations against the CM regarding illegalities in the allotment of 14 sites to his wife in a layout by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), in connection with which the Governor has given approval for investigation against him, were not the only ones committed by Siddaramaiah in Mysuru.

“….haven’t we now seen what he has done for the farmers? Are we not seeing (developments) in Mysuru (referring to MUDA site allotment scam)? Let these15 sites (14 actually) be there on one side. As the Deputy CM, he had built a house. On whose land did you build the house. Do you want records of it? I’m asking the chief minister,” Kumaraswamy said.

Speaking to reporters here, he said, “Who built the house illegally on a MUDA site allotted to a Dalit? Taking 15 sites is not the only thing against you (Siddaramaiah), you have a series of things in Mysuru. A Dalit, who is handicapped, had paid Rs 24,000 to MUDA and the site was allotted to him, but in that place, by creating false documents in the name of Sakamma, you took 10,000 sq ft from Sakamma and constructed the house.”

“When that Dalit came and saw on his site someone had constructed a house. People might have forgotten the developments that took place then, but Kumaraswamy still has the documents. He (Siddaramaiah) repeatedly says that his (life) is an open book. Open it and say whom was the site sold later? Who still possesses it? Just for name sake, a sale was shown. If that (issue) is brought out, another ‘Ramayana’ will start,” the Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries added.

Siddaramaiah had served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1996 to 1999 and from 2004 to 2005 while he was a member of the Janata Dal and Janata Dal (Secular) respectively, but Kumaraswamy did not specify as to when this happened.

Haryana Election 2024 Result LIVE: As counting day begins for the Haryana Assembly elections, political parties and leaders await the results with bated breath. The counting of votes will commence from 8 AM.

The ruling BJP aims to secure a third consecutive term, while the Congress, out of power for the last decade, is optimistic about making a comeback. Several exit polls have also suggested a potential victory for Congress.

This election also marks the first significant direct contest between the BJP and Congress since the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The outcome will likely influence the narratives both parties will construct as they approach elections in other states scheduled over the coming months.

Haryana, which held single-phase voting on October 5, recorded an impressive voter turnout of 67.90% across 90 assembly constituencies in 22 districts. Key players in this electoral battle include the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, INLD-BSP, and the JJP-Azad Samaj Party.

Jammu & Kashmir Election 2024 Result LIVE: Counting day has started for the 90 Assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, marking the first assembly elections since the region was downgraded to a Union Territory (UT) five years ago.

The vote counting will begin at 8 am, and this election will establish the first elected government in the UT since 2019, when Article 370 was abrogated.

The main contenders in this highly anticipated election are the Congress-National Conference alliance, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Voting was conducted in three phases, with 24 seats in the first phase, 26 in the second, and 40 in the third. The overall voter turnout stood at 63.45 percent, slightly lower than the 65.52 percent recorded in the 2014 assembly elections.

Meanwhile, while many exit polls have predicted an advantage for the Congress-NC alliance, the BJP remains optimistic about forming the government. Some pollsters have also suggested that independent candidates could play a key ‘kingmaker’ role in the outcome.

‘L-G Will Nominate Our Candidates’: Ahead of J&K Poll Results, BJP Unhappy with Sofi Yousuf’s ‘Unnecessary’ Comment

The whole brouhaha started after Yousuf, BJP’s J&K vice president, in an interview with a news organisation claimed the party is about to form the government in the union territory. The L-G has the power to nominate five members to the assembly, which Yousuf claimed would be from the BJP and he even named them

The Bharatiya Janata Party leadership is unhappy with the “unnecessary” comments made by its J&K vice president Sofi Yousuf, in which he said Jammu and Kashmir’s lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha would appoint “BJP candidates” as nominated legislators, giving the party a shot to power in a likely close result for the assembly polls, sources told News18 on Monday.

“Right now, the leadership is focused on the counting day (Tuesday). But let me assure you, the leadership isn’t happy with the strength his (Yousuf’s) unnecessary comments has given to the Congress-National Conference alliance,” said a BJP source. “The Congress has already used his comment to tarnish the truly democratic elections in J&K. Asking him for an explanation after the results tomorrow isn’t off the table.” The source added that no member, however senior, has the right to embarrass the party.

Yousuf is the face of the party in the Valley where the saffron outfit is almost non-existent. The whole brouhaha started after Yousuf in an interview with a news organisation claimed the BJP is about to form the government in the union territory. The L-G has the power to nominate five members to the assembly, which Yousuf claimed would be from the BJP and he even named them: Ashok Kaul, Rajni Shethi, Farida Khan, Suresh Shethi, and Geeta Thakur. In the interview, Yousuf went on to cite in what capacity they have been associated with the BJP.

“Everyone is ours. The government in Delhi is ours. (It is natural) their names will go (as nominated candidates) who are in the government,” he said confidently.

The attack from the Congress came from the very top. Party general secretary (organisation) and known to be Rahul Gandhi’s close associate KC Venugopal without naming Yousuf said his party is “vigilant” to all “dirty tricks” of the BJP and will not let it “hijack” democracy. “The misuse of institutions and the Centre’s powers to alter the mandate will not be tolerated,” he said on X.

Congress’s media department head Jairam Ramesh called it “subterfuge” and “bogus Chanakya Niti”. The J&K Congress termed it an “Open misuse of the institution”.

As the BJP is warming up to its shot at forming the first government in J&K after the dilution of Article 370, its top leadership is unhappy with the unwarranted controversy a comment of a local leader has caused.
