Ashley Roberts ‘in a happy place’ as she confirms romance with toyboy boyfriend

Published

Strictly Come Dancing’s Ashley Roberts has confirmed her romance with her toyboy boyfriend and revealed she met him “the old-fashioned way”.

The former Pussycat Dolls, 42, revealed she went through “disastrous” online dates before meeting hunky 25-year-old artist George Rollinson last November – leading to a public outing earlier this year.

After meeting through mutual friends, their romance blossomed and Ashley said she was in a “happy place” after it came about naturally.

Ashley told the Daily Mail: “It was an unexpected thing, we met, and I was having a good time and living my best life, enjoying it and I was like: ‘This is someone quite special.’ I’m in a happy place.”

George has worked with multiple high-profile figures, including five-time Grammy award-winning rapper and singer Drake.

The Heart FM presenter and her toyboy holidayed together in Dubai last year where they soaked up the Middle Eastern sunshine.

Before meeting George, Ashley reportedly signed up for celebrity dating app Raya in 2022 and recalled a terrible night out where she ended up being catfished.

She admitted: “I turned up and necessarily didn’t recognise the person sat in front of me from [their profile] images. And I was like: ‘Wait a minute,’ and it’s a bit uncomfortable because you have to sit through a meal, so that was on the disastrous side.”

Previous lovers

The Don’t Cha singer’s last public relationship was with former Strictly pro Giovanni Pernice. She danced with Pasha Kovalev but Ashley and Giovanni met on the show and dated from 2018 until 2020. The professional dancer quit the show ahead of this year’s 20th anniversary series.

Rumours also swirled that I’m A Celebrity… host Declan Donnelly, 48, and Ashley enjoyed a fling in 2012, although it was never publicly confirmed by the pair.

Strictly fans discuss ‘elephant in the room’ after Jamie Borthwick is branded a ‘cheat’ by co-star

Star of Strictly Jamie Borthwick took a few swipes from his fellow co-stars during the show’s launch last night. However, viewers couldn’t help but address the elephant in the room.

Jamie is one of 14 other celebrities who have signed up for this year’s Strictly series. The EastEnders star previously participated in last year’s Christmas special with Nancy Xu and won the Glitterball trophy.

During the show’s launch on Saturday night (September 14), Jamie discussed his experience last year. “That’s what swung me hook, line and sinker. I don’t quite know how I managed to win that, but this is a whole different ball game! I don’t think I can blag it for a whole 13 weeks,” he said.

Strictly star Jamie Borthwick branded a ‘cheat’ from co-star

When host Claudia Winkleman turned to talk to Jamie during last night’s show, Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans remarked, “Cheat!” as a joke.

However, it didn’t stop there. When former TOWIE star Pete Wicks was asked about why he wanted to sign up for the show, he also took a sly dig at Jamie.

“I am in for a penny, in for a pound,” Pete said, adding, “I’m never going to be here again, unless I’m Jamie”.

‘Is everyone forgetting JB did the Christmas special?’

While the jibes were only banter between the cast, viewers couldn’t help but point out that another celebrity on this year’s lineup had taken part in the show before.

JLS star JB Gill signed up for the Christmas special in 2012 with Ola Jordan and also took home the Glitterball trophy. Seemingly, Jamie’s co-stars appeared unaware of this, but fans at home weren’t.

“Sorry is everyone forgetting JB did the Christmas special as well as Jamie AND he ALSO WON??” one user wrote.

“Everyone’s going on about Jamie doing the Christmas special last year but JB also did it in 2012,” another shared, adding the laughing emoji.

“Is nobody going to address the Christmas JB shaped elephant in the room,” a third remarked, attaching a photo of him performing on the show in 2012.

“Everyone’s going on about Jamie doing the Christmas special last year but JB also did it in 2012,” a fourth person wrote.

Star of Strictly Kai Widdrington has broken his silence after fans of the show were gutted to find out he hadn’t been given a celebrity partner this year.

The hit BBC show launched its 2024 series on Saturday (September 14) with the likes of Nick Knowles, Pete Wicks, Toyah Wilcox, and JB Gill finding out who they have been partnered up with.

This year’s lineup consists of nine male and six female celebrities, leaving two male and one female professional without a partner. Lauren Oakley was the only female to not have been assigned a celeb while Carlos Gu and Kai were the men left without.

Strictly star Kai Widdrington breaks silence on ‘snub’

After joining the Strictly family in 2021, this is the first time Kai has not been assigned a celebrity. While making the finals with AJ Odudu during his first year, Kai made it to Blackpool in 2023 with Angela Rippon.

During an interview with the Daily Star, Kai spoke out about being benched.

“Everyone wants to get a celebrity. Unfortunately, it wasn’t my time this series,” he told the newspaper.

“Two boys couldn’t have one this series, and sadly I am one of them. Some of us don’t get partners, and that’s the way it is. Let’s see what happens next year. Hopefully, I’ll get one then.

“The lineup of celebs this year is amazing. It is going to be a fantastic series, as it always is. We have been filming a lot of the group routines. There are some amazing ones. We have worked really hard through the summer to get them ready for the series. One of the ones I feature in is very funny,” Kai continued.

Still annoyed Kai hasn’t got a partner’

Despite Kai’s positive outlook on the situation, Strictly fans have continued to express their disappointment.

“The fact that Kai has been benched this year is actually upsetting to me. What were they THINKING?!!” one user wrote.

“No partner for Kai this year, well that’s disappointing,” another person shared.

“Still annoyed Kai hasn’t got a partner,” a third remarked.

“Carlos, Kai and Lauren sitting out? Choices,” a fourth shared.

Ellie Leach has been issued a career blow just one year after taking home the Strictly Come Dancing trophy.

The Corrie actress won the 2023 series alongside dance partner Vito Coppola. Since then, she’s remained booked and busy, bagging a role in the theatre show Cluedo.

Ellie – who is on Sunday Brunch today (September 15) – also took part in ITV’s reality show Drama Queens, which followed the lives of several soap stars.

However, fans hoping for another series of the show will be disappointed…

The ITV reality show debuted earlier this year and starred the likes of Emmerdale’s Laura Norton, Coronation Street’s Brooke Vincent and Hollyoaks and EastEnders star Rita Simons.

However, this week it was reported that ITV has decided not to bring Drama Queens back for another series.

A source told The Sun: “Drama Queens was launched amid a lot of excitement and fanfare, but proved logistically quite difficult and expensive to make.”

Ellie Leach show ‘axed’

The insider went on: “Plus the soap fanbase didn’t translate to automatic audiences as reality viewers tend to be quite a younger demographic. In the end producers decided it was best to leave it as a one-off series. And focus on new projects and trial new formats.”

An ITV spokesperson has also told The Sun newspaper: “There are no current plans for a second series of Drama Queens. But the first series is available for viewers to enjoy on ITVX, and we wouldn’t rule out revisiting the show in the future.”

Ellie on Drama Queens

On Drama Queens, viewers got a candid look inside the lives of soap stars. These included Ellie, who in one episode, opened up about her cheating boyfriend.

Ellie, 22, split from ex-boyfriend Reagan Pettman last year. It was revealed that he’d shared a drunken snog with another woman while on a night out.

On the show, Ellie opened up to her mum, Karen. Their conversation came just days after Reagan had spoken to The Sun on Sunday back in January and admitted to cheating.

Watch Ellie on Sunday Brunch on Sunday (September 15) at 9:30am on Channel 4.
