The star – best known for appearing in A Place in the Sun – had been living with terminal lung cancer, after having been diagnosed in 2020.

Jonnie’s wife announced the heartbreaking news on Instagram.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Jonnie’s passing. A truly remarkable soul, he fought bravely against cancer with unwavering strength and courage. Jonnie touched the lives of so many with his kindness, warmth, and infectious spirit,” she said.

Jonnie’s widow speaks out

Now, three months on from his death, his wife, Jess Irwin, has revealed what his final words to her were.

Jess sat down with HELLO! magazine for her first interview since Jonnie’s death.

She revealed that Jonnie had poured his heart into transforming their house in Newcastle, which they’d bought in 2021.

Elsewhere in the interview, Jess spoke about how Jonnie had told her he’d come back as a robin when he died.

She also confessed that she wasn’t prepared for the end when it came.

“It was cruel how quick it was. He came out of hospital the previous Friday and we lost him a week later. He didn’t leave bed the entire time, so we weren’t able to get out in the fresh air and process things,” she said.

She also revealed what Jonnie told her at the end.

“He told me ‘I’m so happy I met you’ and that he knew the boys would have the most joy and fun a person could bring,” she then said.

Jill Halfpenny confirms she has new partner following tragedy

Corrie star and former Strictly champ Jill Halfpenny has opened up about her experience finding love again.

It comes seven years after the sudden death of her partner at the age of 43.

Jill’s partner Matt Janes suffered a tragic heart attack while at the gym in 2017, something it took her two years to address publicly.

Devastatingly for Jill, losing Matt happened in very similar circumstances to those in which she lost her father in 1979 aged just four, after he passed away playing football.

Jill Halfpenny on partner Matt’s death

“There was a sense of feeling cursed when Matt died after what happened to my dad,” Jill, now 48, recently told Prima magazine. “Like, how can that happen twice? That drove me to therapy to investigate those feelings because I thought, I’m not going to live alongside that narrative.”

On a previous podcast appearance, she described the sense of  “dealing with a double loss – a loss I’d never dealt with”. “My grief at losing Matt, my partner, was so brutal, and so shocking, but then what happened was it brought out all of my grief from my dad as well,” she explained.

Jill on new love

Seven years on from the awful tragedy, Jill has now bravely opened up about how she dealt with the bereavements in her upcoming memoir, A Life Reimagined: My Journey of Hope in the Midst of Loss.

I didn’t know if I’d ever meet anyone again.

She has also shared the lovely news that she has found love again with partner Ian.

“It sounds so cheesy, but I think Ian and I met at the perfect time. After Matt died, I didn’t know if I’d ever meet anyone again, but Ian is my cheerleader… I know I’ve met somebody who I love and who loves me,” she said.

Ruth and Eamonn split

The world of daytime TV was shaken last weekend when Ruth and Eamonn announced their divorce after 27 years together. Married since 2010 and popular for their co-hosting on ITV’s This Morning, they have a son, Jack.

The announcement on May 25 came as a shock to those who admired their chemistry on-screen. The split appears to be amicable. However, with Ruth’s sister Julia’s tragic passing in 2019 and Eamonn’s ongoing health issues, it’s been a strenuous period for both.

Vinny to die and be Nish donor, fan theory predicts

This week in EastEnders, Nish Panesar returned to Walford and revealed some huge news to Vinny and the rest of the Panesar family – he’s dying…

Last night (Tuesday, May 28), Nish went to hospital and realised that he needed a new heart.

A new EastEnders fan theory has now predicted who could be Nish’s heart donor.

EastEnders: Nish is dying

Nish returned to Walford this week and told his family that he was dying. However, they struggled to believe that he was telling the truth.

With the family voting on whether to allow Nish back into the family, Ravi saw Nugget talking to Nish at McKlunky’s last night and shoved his dad to the ground.

Nish was then taken to the hospital where he received some rather worrying news.

Thinking that he had years left, Nish was stunned to find out from the doctors that he needed a new heart.

However, he might not survive long enough to reach the top of the waiting list for a transplant.

Vinny and Suki have been teaming up to take over the Panesar empire whilst trying to keep this a secret from Nish.

Now, a new fan theory suggests that Vinny could soon lose his life as Nish receives his heart.

One fan commented: “Nish needs a heart transplant. Well, nice knowing you, Vinny.”

Another fan asked: “Nish needs a heart transplant – but who will provide one for him or is he too late?,” which led to the response: “I think Vinny will die and Nish will get his heart.”

A third person shared: “So Ravi or Vinny will be the donor.”
