Kate Garraway opened up about “new beginnings” following the sad death of her husband Derek Draper.

TV presenter Kate, 56, lost her late husband in January this year. He had endured a lengthy battle from the impact of Covid-19, first hospitalised with the virus in early 2020.

And on Sunday (March 31) Kate revealed to fans a big change she was making to her Easter Plans this year.

Taking to her Instagram, Kate shared a slew of snaps from her first Easter without Derek. The photos included a stunning ‘egg tree’ and delicious-looking plates of roast beef and Yorkshire puddings.

She told her followers: “Happy Easter everyone! Usually, we have a mega family egg hunt at my Aunty Lynne’s but this year I am actually working – although in a spectacular location and have brought the kids with me so hard to call it ‘work’.

“Very grateful to be able to have this time and sending love to all who are working today in less glamorous locations – keeping the wheels turning for the rest of us. Hope you find some joy and new hope today and everyday xxx #hope. #newbeginnings #love.”

Kate Garraway fans rally round GMB star

Fans were quick to send their well wishes to GMB star Kate. Rushing to the comments section, one person said: “Happy Easter to you beautiful Kate you’re an inspiration, hope you & your lovely family have a good day.”

Someone else added: “Enjoy it so well deserved.” A third chimed in and wrote: “Happy Easter to you and your family, you are an inspiration to everyone and always thinking of others even when you’re having a tough time, sending love.”

Kate and Derek documentary

It comes after Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story aired last week and detailed Derek’s final year of his life before his death in January. It also documented the issues in the UK health care system.

The hour-long documentary started in early 2023 as Derek received round-the-clock care. It saw Derek speak on camera for the first time since his health ordeal began in 2020.

Throughout the documentary, there were several heartbreaking moments between Derek and Kate. One moment saw Derek break down and call his efforts “pathetic” as he tried to lift himself up out of his wheelchair.

Kate told him: “It’s okay, it’s okay darling. It’s not pathetic, you’re absolutely trying.”

Rev Richard Coles and heartbreak

Published

Former Strictly star Rev Richard Coles – who is on Celebrity Bake Off tonight (Sunday, April 14) – has faced a lot of heartbreak in recent years.

From losing his husband to suffering a devastating family death, here’s an inside look at the 62-year-old’s difficult few years…

Rev Richard Coles – death of his husband

Back in 2019, Richard was left devastated when his husband, David, suddenly passed away.

Richard and David – a fellow priest – entered a civil partnership back in 2010. They had been dating since 2007.

They lived together in the village of Finedon, Northamptonshire, and both served as Church of England vicars.

However, David struggled with alcoholism, which eventually led to his death in 2019.

“Anyone who has loved an addict and lived with an addict will know how tough it is,” he told BBC Radio Northampton in 2021.

He then said that he believed David was “probably” already an alcoholic when they met in 2007. He said that David “always had an enthusiastic fondness for alcohol”.

“An enthusiastic fondness for alcohol when you’re 20 or 25 is one thing, when you’re 35 or 40 it’s another thing and his drinking just got out of control,” he then said.

Richard then went on to say that his husband used alcohol as an “anesthetic” when life was difficult. However, the situation worsened as time passed.

“People used to talk about the ‘demon drink’ which sounds like a rather melodramatic way to describe it, but it is like someone is seized by a demon and when David was at his worst he was really difficult and it was very tough,” Richard said.

He then said that David was “deeply ashamed” of his alcoholism.

However, when David died, Richard joined Alcoholics Anonymous. “I just sat with people who were going through the same thing I was going through and that made a huge difference,” he said.

Richard turned to writing following David’s death

In an interview with The Guardian 2021, Richard revealed that while David was dying, he was still posing for selfies with fans in the hospital. He confessed that he was “all over the place” at the time.

As soon as David died, Richard began writing to cope. His writing eventually became his book, The Madness of Grief.

“Writing out of the chaos, a little like a war correspondent – that’s how I felt, like I was standing on a street corner and there were bombs going off and I was writing down what was happening. It was a way of trying to endure it. Because something like this is almost unendurable. And you do what you have to do,” he said.

Elsewhere in the interview, he confessed he wished he’d spent more time with David.

‘I wish I’d spent more time with David’

“I realised, suddenly, that in trying to fill my life with as much incident and interest as I could I had neglected important things of home and hearth. I wish I’d spent more time with David. I wish I’d prioritised doing nothing with David more. Not seeing that as a holiday from things, but as the centre of thing,” he said.

He also opened up about dealing with David’s addiction.

“When David was at his worst it was so gruelling, so difficult for me as his husband, I felt like I was falling through space sometimes. And what I discovered, once he died, was how much I wanted to express what it had been like for me,” he said.

Richard also confessed that he sits by David’s grave and speaks to him.

Earlier this year, Richard was dealt another devastating blow when his mum died.

He took to Twitter to announce the news in February. He shared a snap of his mum on her wedding day.

“Mum died last night. Here she is on her wedding day, laughing,” he wrote.

“No mummy’s boy (hello) could have wished for more. RIP,” he then added.

The former Strictly star was inundated with support from fans and followers. “Sorry to hear this Richard. May her memory be a blessing,” David Baddiel wrote.

“I’m so sorry for your loss Richard,” another follower said.

Rev Richard Coles on new romance following husband’s death

Rev Richard Coles – who is on the Great Celebrity Bake Off tonight (Sunday, April 14) – sadly lost his husband back in 2019.

Last year, four years on from his husband’s death, Richard opened up about finding love again, having previously thought he never would.

Back in 2019, just before Christmas, Richard’s husband, David, died.

David had been battling alcoholism for several years, something Richard claimed his late husband was “deeply ashamed” of.

Speaking in 2021, Richard confessed that he wished he’d spent more time with David.

“I realised, suddenly, that in trying to fill my life with as much incident and interest as I could I had neglected important things of home and hearth. I wish I’d spent more time with David. I wish I’d prioritised doing nothing with David more. Not seeing that as a holiday from things, but as the centre of thing,” he told The Guardian.

‘David was the love of my life’

He also admitted he sits by David’s grave and speaks to him.

“It’s such a trope of sentimental films, isn’t it? That you sit by the lost one’s grave and talk to them. But actually one of the conversations I have with David in death is to take the [bleep] out of him. I tease him for lying in ignominy, now, in such an insalubrious corner of the churchyard. He would have hated it. He did like his luxuries,” he said.

Later in the interview, Richard waved away the idea of finding love again.

“The possibility of romance is so far from my imaginable life that I can’t even countenance it. I’m not saying I want to sit in the corner stirring polenta in a black shawl for ever. But David was the love of my life. And I just can’t imagine ever having two of those,” he said.

Rev Richard Coles on finding love again

Last July, during an appearance on Lorraine, Richard spoke about finding love again with actor Dickie Cant.

Richard ‘Dickie’ Cant has appeared in several well-known TV shows, including Doctor Who, The Crown and It’s A Sin.

“I wanted to meet someone who had been around the block and wanted to share a life with someone. I thought I was out of the game when David died,” Richard said.

He then went on to say that losing David and then heading back into the dating scene made him feel like “a polar bear coming out of hibernation and looking for a seal”.

However, he revealed that dating apps gave him some confidence.

During an interview with The Sunday Times, Richard revealed that his first date with Dickie was at a Royal Horticultural Society “because that’s what old gays do”.

He confessed that he knew he’d want to see Dickie again before they’d even finished their lunch. “And then it just went very quickly, really,” he said.

Speaking on Kaye Adams’ podcast last year, he said: “Here’s an odd thing about meeting a new person. Most of the people in my life, my closest friends, are family to me really. We’ve known each other for 40 years. I haven’t got 40 years to devote to somebody else or to uncover stuff about them, so you try and cut to the chase.

“So, me and Dickie, my new bloke, he’s got his own history too. We have to sort of find a sort of shorthand for all that stuff because we simply haven’t got time to get it all in the bank if you see what I mean,” he then continued.

“So, it’s interesting. And I said the other day – I think our legs have taken us further than our journey ought to have gone. Because it’s just faster. Because we haven’t got time. And because we’re heading in the same direction we know where we want to go. So we’re shifting along nicely.”

McFly star Harry Judd and his family life

Published

Harry Judd – who is on Tipping Point: Lucky Stars tonight (Sunday, April 14) – is best known for being the drummer in McFly.

Here’s everything we know about the former Strictly champ, including his family life with Izzy and their kids, a new arrival to the family, and their plans for more children.

Harry Judd – McFly star’s family life

Harry and his wife, Izzy, tied the knot in a lavish ceremony back in 2012. However, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing for the couple.

Soon after their wedding, the couple began trying for a baby. However, Izzy was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, which can lead to difficulty getting pregnant as a result of irregular ovulation or no ovulation.

She underwent fertility treatment, before they opted to undergo IVF. They had a successful round of IVF, however it sadly ended in miscarriage.

In an interview with Fabulous magazine last year, Harry revealed that it had a huge impact on their marriage.

“Izzy so desperately wanted to be a mother and so as soon as we realised there was a problem, it took over her life,” he said.

Harry Judd’s marriage with wife

He then continued.

“The dynamic changed because all the focus was on getting pregnant and in a way I lost her a little bit. I lost that smiley, confident, beautiful wife,” he said.

The drummer then went on to say that he felt “helpless” seeing his wife in “absolute despair” during the honeymoon phase of their marriage.

“Our wedding had been the happiest day of our lives – cut to a year later and she’s in absolute despair. I remember after two years thinking: ‘God, we haven’t even had a kid and already I’m sick of this.’ It was constant but I felt I couldn’t get frustrated at her,” he then said.

Wonderfully, Izzy became pregnant after another round of IVF, and they welcomed their daughter, Lola, in 2016.

A year later, Izzy fell pregnant via natural means, and gave birth to their son Kit in 2017.

Harry’s wife on there being ‘no romance’ in marriage

During an interview with New! magazine Izzy spoke about how there was “no romance left” between the couple when they were trying to conceive.

“With all the ‘doing it’ to make sure we hit the ovulation window, at first Harry couldn’t believe his luck! But then sex became so routine and functional. Suddenly, there’s no fun, no joy, no flirting and no romance left,” she said.

During a separate interview on Lorraine, she said: “We thought we would get pregnant after we got married and it didn’t work out that way. In the end we did turn to IVF and I’m so grateful that we did.”

Harry and Izzy Judd’s children

In 2021, there was further joy for the couple when they welcomed their third child, a little boy called Lockie.

During an interview with OK! magazine, Izzy said: “There were moments we thought we wouldn’t even be able to have one child, so to have three, I feel as though we’re very lucky.”

Earlier this year, in an interview with New! magazine, Izzy revealed whether the couple have any plans for more children.

“No, but I do struggle a bit with that, purely because we have one more frozen embryo. I think if Harry was here now he’d be going, ‘Absolutely no way’,” she said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Izzy heaped praise on her husband’s dad skills. He said: “Harry’s such a hands-on, brilliant dad. He’s got this very sensitive, warm side and then he’s got this very competitive, determined other side.”

During the chat, Izzy also spoke about Harry’s working schedule. At the time, he was away filming for Celebrity Race Across The World. She admitted: “For both of us, it was a very challenging time. I’ve spoken very openly about my anxiety and it was the greatest test for me because I didn’t know where Harry was. I couldn’t contact him and he wasn’t in the country.”

New arrival for Harry Judd and family

Last week, Harry and Izzy welcomed a new arrival into the family – a puppy!

Taking to Instagram, Harry and Izzy shared a snap of their adorable black Labrador pup for their fans and followers to see.

“Introducing the newest member of our family, Billy,” Izzy captioned the shared post.

“On the 4th of February my cousin’s beautiful dog Meadow had a litter of 9 Labrador puppies,” she continued.

“I didn’t grow up with dogs but Harry and I always said we would love to have a Labrador one day. So that one day is now… All puppy advice welcome.”
