She said the sector employed over 50,000 youths and attracted Rs 17,000 crore foreign investments, therefore it is important to withdraw the notices to protect the industry.
Delhi Finance Minister Atishi on Saturday said tax evasion notices worth Rs 1.5-lakh crore to online gaming companies will finish them and vowed to seek their withdrawal at the GST Council meeting during the day.
She said the sector employed over 50,000 youths and attracted Rs 17,000 crore foreign investments, therefore it is important to withdraw the notices to protect the industry.
An “unstable, erratic tax environment” will deter foreign investors in the online gaming industry and impact the overall start-up ecosystem in the country, she said.
GST Council decisions in the past including the 28 percent tax on online gaming industry adversely impacted the industry, she said.
The GST Council, chaired by Union finance minister and comprising state ministers, will meet here on Saturday.
In the previous meeting on August 2, the council had approved amendments to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) laws to provide clarity on the taxation of casinos, horse racing and online gaming.

The Julana Assembly constituency in Haryana is going to be the watched election battle as the counting for the 2024 Assembly polls in Haryana is underway. With two widely popular personalities — wrestler Vinesh Phogat from Congress and Captain Yogesh Bairagi from BJP — contesting against each other, the results for the Julana Assembly seat is much awaited.
As the early trends come in, Phogat is leading from the Julana Assembly constituency.

Notably, Phogat participated in the wrestlers’ anti-sexual harassment protest against the former chief of the Wrestling Federation of India and ex-MP of BJP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
In addition to Phogat, 11 other candidates have also contested from the Julana Assembly constituency. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yogesh Bairagi, who earlier served in the Army for nearly nine years and is a former commercial pilot, is being termed to be the key contender against Phogat.
Julana had over 1.85 lakh eligible voters, with 40 percent of them from the Jat community. Voting across all 90 seats in the Haryana Legislative Assembly was conducted in a single phase on October 5.
