Jody Cundy rushed to hospital – will he dance on Saturday?
Strictly Come Dancing star Jody Cundy was rushed to hospital this week after injuring himself in rehearsals.
The cyclist and former swimmer is partnered up with reigning champ Jowita Przystal. During last Saturday’s Strictly episode (September 30), the pair performed a paso doble to AC/DC’s Thunderstruck.
This Saturday (October 7), the couple are supposed to be dancing to an American smooth to Married Life from the Up soundtrack. However, during an appearance on It Takes Two last night (October 5), where he wasn’t wearing his prosthetic leg, Jody revealed it had been a week of “highs and lows”.
And, as a result, sparked fears that he may not be fit to dance this weekend.
Strictly news: Jody’s infected leg was ‘warm’ and ‘swollen’
After rehearsals on Tuesday evening (October 3), Jody realised he had a sore leg and admitted he “didn’t really think too much of it”.
However, at 4am the following morning, he realised it something was more serious than he thought. After waking up and seeing that his leg was “warm” and “swollen”, Jody realised he had an infection.
“I got myself to the hospital, went to see the doctors there, and they prescribed me antibiotics,” he explained. Things only got worse, however. Jody said by the time the morning came around, he “couldn’t actually get my leg on”.
It is unclear if Jody will be healed for Saturday’s live show
On Thursday, a downcast Jody revealed that he still wasn’t able “to put my leg on” and hasn’t done an awful lot of training this week.
Stating that his leg is “still healing”, he revealed he is unsure whether he will be ready for Saturday night’s live show – or if his leg will even be healed enough for him to dance.
“The hope is that tomorrow, the swelling has gone down a little bit more and we’re in a situation where I can do a little bit of practice and pick up where we left off on Tuesday,” Jody continued.
On the plus side, he said he has learned the routine completely.
Fingers crossed, Jody!
Strictly Come Dancing is on Saturday (October 7) at 6.20pm on BBC One.

Lorraine Kelly ‘overwhelmed’ as she announces ’emotional’ new charity single prompted by birth of baby Billie
TV legend Lorraine Kelly has teamed up with Marti Pellow for a very special new project prompted by the birth of her gorgeous granddaughter, baby Billie.
Former Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti is celebrating the 30th anniversary of his hit song Love Is All Around this year. And, after a chance meeting on James Martin’s Saturday Morning, Marti learned that it was a song Lorraine sung to her daughter Rosie when she was born.
In a full circle moment, Lorraine now sings the song to baby Billie. And it’s her granddaughter that has spurred Lorraine on to launch a very emotionally-charged new project. And the star is doing it with the help of Marti.
Lorraine Kelly on ‘overwhelming’ project inspired by baby Billie
Speaking to OK!, Lorraine revealed that she’s teamed up with the Scottish singer to re-record Love Is All Around with her Change & Check Choir. Last year, Joss Stone fronted the choir’s charity single, Golden.
The choir is composed of individuals either undergoing treatment for breast cancer or who are survivors. It was launched in 2019 by Lorraine and her daytime TV producer Helen Addis, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Now Lorraine has revealed that she wants to raise more funds and awareness so that breast cancer isn’t something granddaughter Billie will have to worry about in her lifetime.
“I would love her to grow up in a world where she didn’t have to worry about breast cancer. That would be the best thing ever. Maybe in her lifetime. She’s only one month old. The advances that are happening. The science is incredible,” said Lorraine.
‘The whole thing was very, very emotional’
Admitting that she loves working on her ITV1 show, Lorraine said that the thing she’s “definitely most proud of” is her Change & Check campaign. Lorraine also shared that there were tears on the day the choir recorded the song.
“The whole thing was very, very emotional. Marti said to me: ‘When you record something that means something, something will happen in the room.’ I didn’t know what he meant, but then I did. Marti recorded his bit, then he helped us record our bits. Then we all sang it together, just with the piano. I burst into tears, as did so many people, because it was just overwhelming. Marti is so kind,” she said.
‘You cannot fail to be touched by that’
The singer spent 14 weeks at number one with the track in 1994. And he too said he was moved to tears on the day.
“If you have a beating heart, why wouldn’t you? Especially when you hear the circumstances. Once you come to a certain age in your life, you become very much aware of cancer. There isn’t any family that hasn’t been touched with that. Whether it’s friends or family who have fought the disease or who didn’t make it through, you cannot fail to be touched by that.”
Love Is All Around by the Change & Check Choir, featuring Marti Pellow, is available to download tomorrow (October 14).

The Voice star Tom Fletcher on ‘unhealthy obsession’ that led to bipolar diagnosis
The Voice judge Tom Fletcher previously opened up about his “deeply unhealthy” eating disorder that led to his bipolar diagnosis.
The musician – who is on The Voice repeat today (October 13) – shot to fame as a member of McFly in the 2000s.
However, despite all the glitz and glam, behind closed doors, Tom was battling with an “obsession” that he described as “a deeply unhealthy one”.
The Voice judge Tom Fletcher on being ‘the fat one in the band’
In 2012, Tom candidly opened up about the dark times, admitting that he secretly battled an eating disorder while in McFly.
“I was obsessing about being the fat one in the band,” he wrote in the memoir of the band, Unsaid Things… Our Story.
“I wanted to lose weight, but rather than going about it the sensible way, I pretty much stopped eating,” Tom added.
As a result, Tom embarked on an unhealthy ritual. He revealed: “I’d go to Starbucks and order a frappuccino and blueberry muffin and that was me for the day. Not eating apart from my daily Starbucks became my routine.”
Tom Fletcher reveals extent of heartbreaking eating disorder
Tom then shared how he would “beat myself up” if he “consumed anything else.” He said: “I’d be in a foul mood if we were working somewhere there was no Starbucks.”
The musician also recounted a time when his car was in the garage, so he “got up extra early and walked several miles to our local town to get one.” Tom added: “It was an obsession and a deeply unhealthy one.”
Tom was diagnosed with bipolar
According to Tom, his unhealthy dieting habits spiralled him back into depression – something he conquered five years earlier. Tom then decided to reach out for help. He had a consultation with his GP who then referred him to a specialist at the Priory clinic.
After meeting with two additional doctors, Tom was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. His treatment plan included antidepressants. He also had nightly sessions with hypnotherapy tapes that he would listen to as he fell asleep.
‘I just cried’
Tom also spoke out about his bipolar diagnosis in 2020, revealing that Stephen Fry’s documentary helped him realise he had bipolar.
“In late 2011, I watched a documentary by Stephen Fry called The Secret Life Of The Manic Depressive. He shared his story of bipolar disorder and depression, and it sounded exactly like me. I just cried,” Tom said to MailOnline.
“I’d never thought about it being a definable mental health condition before, and I decided to speak to a therapist,” he added.
Tom continued: “For a long time, I still didn’t tell anyone about it. I was later diagnosed with bipolar. When I told my friend, Harry [Judd, the band’s drummer], he said: ‘Ahhh, that makes so much sense.”
The Voice repeat airs on Sunday (October 13) at 1:45pm on ITV1.

Luba Mushtuk shuts down rumours of complaint about Nick Knowles’ ‘clingy’ fiancée
Strictly star Nick Knowles returned to the dancefloor last night (October 12) after a week off with an injury.
The DIY SOS star and his pro partner Luba Mushtuk performed their Movie Week Charleston, scoring a disappointing 21 points with the judges.
Some Strictly viewers also expressed concern for Nick during the live show, saying that he “needs to go home before he does any more damage”.
However, the morning after the night before, Nick and Luba are hitting the headlines for an altogether different reason.
Strictly news: Claims of training room struggles for Nick and Luba
According to a source in The Sun, Luba expressed concerns that Nick’s fiancée Katie Dadzie had been spending too much time at rehearsals with the pair. As a result, it was claimed that Luba was finding it difficult to teach the DIY SOS host.
The source alleged: “Luba found the constant interruptions exasperating because she felt it was disturbing their training and routine. It was starting to affect how Luba could teach, given that she felt Katie’s eyes on her when they were in close holds.
“Luba is a complete professional but no one can deny that it is awkward having your partner’s girlfriend in the room. Katie seems to be very clingy to Nick.”

Luba and the Beeb hit back at ‘completely false’ claims
However, Luba’s reps have furiously denied the claims, hitting back with a statement.
“This story is completely false. There was never any complaint made,” they told ED! today (October 13).
The BBC also stepped in to shut down concerns with its own statement.
“Any claim that there has been a complaint is categorically untrue. There have been no such complaints made to anyone, so these assertions are completely false,” it said.
