This came after a partially-charred body of a woman was found on the side of a road in a village in Jaipur earlier in the morning and the police suspected it to be a case of murder.

The BJP on Friday sharpened its attack on the Congress on the issue of women’s safety in poll-bound Rajasthan and demanded that former its party president Rahul Gandhi ask Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to tender his resignation.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla asked Gandhi to break his silence and raise questions on the functioning of his party’s government under Gehlot.

This came after a partially-charred body of a woman was found on the side of a road in a village in Jaipur earlier in the morning and the police suspected it to be a case of murder. “This is not just one incident… Rajasthan under Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is leading the country in crime against women,” Poonwalla claimed and cited several other cases of murder, rape and other crimes registered in the state in recent past.

He further claimed that law and order in Rajasthan has been “completely destroyed” in the four and a half years of Congress rule in the state. “Priyanka Gandhi gave a slogan ‘ladki hoon, lad sakti’ (girls can fight) but women in Rajasthan today are asking ‘ladki hoon to kya Rajasthan mein bach sakti hoon’ (If girls are safe in Rajasthan),” he added.

While Prime Minister Narendera Modi has ensured that women enjoy their constitutional right, women’s right to safety is not being ensured in Rajasthan, he charged.

“Congress leaders talk about women safety and empowerment, make big claims about them. Often their leaders and spokesperson indulge in vulture politics raising the issue of women safety in other states,” Poonawalla said.

“Will Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visit Rajasthan, take up the issue (of women safety) in the state with the chief minister and ask for his resignation,” he wondered. The BJP spokesperson referred to some recent cases of crime against women in Rajasthan and said “neither Rahul Gandhi, nor Priyanka Vadra ever come out with a statement condemning these incidents”.

None of the INDI alliance partners have also come out with any statement on these incidents in Rajasthan, he charged. “Why is this selective outrage?” Poonawalla asked Gandhi and the opposition parties’ INDIA bloc in a veiled reference to their stand on violence against women in Manipur.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, also the guardian minister of Pune district, was speaking to reporters after attending a meeting of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday blamed the parents of the teenager allegedly involved in the Pune car crash saying they ignored his behaviour which resulted in the death of two young professionals.

Pawar, also the guardian minister of Pune district, was speaking to reporters after attending a meeting of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

“The minor’s conduct in the Pune accident is highly irresponsible. It happened because the teenager’s parents ignored his behaviour. The son is in an observation home and his father and grandfather have been arrested,” he said.

The deputy CM said he has instructed officials to take strict action in the “Pune, Jalgaon and Nagpur incidents”.

A day before a Porsche allegedly driven by the Pune teenager, son of builder Vishal Agarwal, hit a motorcycle, leaving two techies dead in the city on May 19, one woman and three children were killed in Jalgaon after a car carrying four young men dashed a two-wheeler.

On May 24, an intoxicated person driving a car crashed into pedestrians and two-wheelers in Nagpur, injuring seven persons, including a three-month-old baby.

Anjali Damania, a social activist, had claimed that Ajit Pawar had called the Pune police commissioner after the Porsche accident.

Asked about her claim, Pawar said, “As a people’s representative, we receive calls regarding such accidents. I police commissioner and told him that the accused boy was from a wealthy family and there was a chance police might be pressured. I told him not to succumb to any political pressure.” Pawar said CM Eknath Shinde and his peer Devendra Fadnavis have already clarified their positions in this matter.

About the opposition alleging political pressure in the Pune case, Pawar said when someone is in opposition they allege political pressure behind every probe.

He said, “A ‘responsible’ MLA has accused the Pune police commissioner of accepting bribes from bar operators in the city. He should give proof…if proof is given the state will definitely probe into it.” Asked about his party MLA Sunil Tingare, who had visited Pune’s Yerawada police station hours after the accident in the Kalyani Nagar area, Pawar said, “Tingare himself has clarified his stand. He later met me in Pune and presented his version. I have asked top police officials to take strict action against cops or doctors who tried to dilute the probe.” Meanwhile, Deputy CM Fadnavis said in Nagpur that the police won’t stop until they get to the bottom of the Pune car crash case.

The police on Monday arrested two doctors and an employee of Sassoon General Hospital over alleged manipulation of blood samples and destruction of evidence in the case.

‘Many of Us Felt Bhujbal Deserved to Be CM’: Ajit Pawar Counters Sharad Pawar’s Remarks on 2004 Deal with Congress

Had the NCP taken the Maharashtra chief minister’s post in 2004, it would have maintained that position throughout its coalition with the Congress, Ajit Pawar added

Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar in a recent statement strongly contested Nationalist Congress Party founder Sharad Pawar’s claim regarding the 2004 assembly elections. Despite the NCP securing 71 seats and the Congress 69, the chief ministerial post was given to the latter. Ajit Pawar stated the “underlying reasons” behind this decision, shedding light on the then internal party dynamics.

Reflecting on Sharad Pawar’s comments, Ajit Pawar said, “A few days ago, Sharad Pawar remarked that had the NCP taken the chief minister’s position in 2004, the party would have split. This statement is entirely false. During discussions with Sharad Pawar at the time, senior leaders like Chhagan Bhujbal, Praful Patel, and Sunil Tatkare were present. We all believed that the chief minister should be from our party. Personally, I was not interested in the position then; I thought Chhagan Bhujbal should be the chief minister because he played a crucial role in expanding our party across Maharashtra. None of us could deny his contribution.”

Ajit Pawar then spoke on why Chhagan Bhujbal was not picked. “Many of us felt Bhujbal deserved to be the chief minister. However, I have a different understanding of why Sharad Pawar did not make him the chief minister. According to my reliable information, after making Sudhakarrao Naik the chief minister, Naik stopped listening to Sharad Pawar within a year. Naik even made bold statements, implying that he could handle any challenges independently. This led to the removal of 17 leaders, including Bhujbal, from the cabinet. Vijay Singh Mohite-Patil informed us at the time that we were being excluded from the cabinet, sparking a series of disruptions,” he said.

Had the NCP taken the chief minister’s post in 2004, it would have maintained that position throughout its coalition with the Congress, the deputy CM added. “Any leader from our party could have become the chief minister, potentially Bhujbal, followed by leaders like RR Patil,” he said.

‘Write Articles After Smoking Marijuana’: Fadnavis React To Sanjay Raut’s Comment On Nitin Gadkari

Raut claimed that ‘Modi, Shah and Fadnavis’ conspired against their own party leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to ensure his defeat in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections from Nagpur

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday rebuked at Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut’s claims that top BJP leaders, including PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Fadnavis himself, conspired against their own party leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to ensure his defeat in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections from Nagpur.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Fadnavis dismissed Raut’s allegations, saying, “I have repeatedly said not to ask me questions about Sanjay Raut. I don’t speak about people who write articles after smoking marijuana. I think he is in London, where there is good mental treatment available. He should take the appropriate medications.”

On Sunday, Raut, who is also the spokesperson for Shiv Sena (UBT), alleged in the party’s mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ that Fadnavis had unwillingly campaigned for Gadkari in Nagpur only after realising that Gadkari could not be defeated. Nagpur is the hometown of both BJP leaders.

“Modi, Shah and Fadnavis worked for Gadkari’s defeat in Nagpur. Fadnavis unwillingly joined the campaign for Gadkari when he realised he couldn’t be defeated. The RSS people in Nagpur are openly saying Fadnavis helped the opposition to get Gadkari defeated,” Raut wrote.

Raut further claimed that Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had distributed Rs 25-30 crore in every constituency and used his resources to defeat candidates from the NCP, led by Ajit Pawar.

He further took a swipe at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, suggesting that Adityanath would be replaced if the Modi-Shah government returned to power after the Lok Sabha elections.
