Amanda Abbington’s fiancé fuels ‘feud’ rumours
Amanda Abbington’s fiancé appears to have sparked rumours of a new Strictly 2023 “feud” with her professional dance partner Giovanni Pernice.
Britain’s Got Talent star Jonathan Goodwin, who has been dating Amanda since 2021, isn’t following Giovanni on Instagram, while the professional dancer has also failed to follow him too.
The apparent “snub” comes after reports that the BBC show was in chaos after Amanda threatened to quit due to Giovanni’s “aggressive behaviour” during training.
Strictly 2023: More ‘feud’ rumours
A source previously alleged to The Sun: “He is quite militant in his approach to training. She’s been left very shaken, and has liaised with her team about quitting. It has become far more stressful than she ever imagined and at the moment things between them are incredibly tense.”
However, Amanda took to Instagram to shut down the reports. In an expletive-filled rant, she said: “Ignoring the [bleep] because clearly people are [bleep]s. Just stop it, stop it, grow up. No one gives a [bleep]. Shut up, it’s [bleep], so [bleep] off.”
Earlier this week, the pair addressed claims they’re not getting on, admitting it has been “difficult”.
Speaking to host Janette Manrara on Strictly: It Takes Two, Amanda said Giovanni is a “good teacher”. “He’s really disciplined and he tells me like it is, and I need that because I found out that I’m actually quite lazy,” the actress explained.
After Janette asked: “You’re getting along like a house on fire in rehearsals, right?” Amanda said they “laugh a lot” and “have the same sense of humour”.
Giovanni then added: “We do have a good time. But at the same time it’s a difficult process. Especially for people who have never done Strictly before. I always say it’s a marathon not a sprint. The first few weeks, it is difficult. It’s a lot of hours to train, it’s a lot of hours you have to concentrate.”
Who is Amanda’s fiancé Jonathan Goodwin?
Amanda and stunt performer Jonathan met through social media. They first connected in 2012, with Amanda admitting: “We were both in relationships at the time, but we admired each other’s work and occasionally liked each other’s tweets.”
The pair became romantically involved and were chatting online for a month before he flew to Vienna to meet her in person for the first time in August 2021. They got engaged within half an hour of meeting each other.
Jonathan is now in a wheelchair after a stunt went terribly wrong last year and left him paralysed.
Amanda explained: “He fell 30ft and lost a kidney, broke both shoulder blades, shattered both legs. Third-degree burns, broke his spine and severed his spinal cord and nearly died. And then on the operating table, he nearly died again.”
Amanda was previously in a long-term relationship with her Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman for 16 years, before splitting in 2016. They share children Joe, 17, and Grace, 15,

‘He owes her an apology’
BBC Breakfast host Charlie Stayt has found himself in hot water following a comment he made to co-star Carol Kirkwood.
The presenter was back on screens on Thursday (October 10) hosting the show with Naga Munchetty. The pair were discussing a glitch on the BBC’s weather app to show meteorologist Carol Kirkwood.
But things took an awkward turn when Charlie’s “absolutely disgraceful” behaviour towards Carol ruffled a few feathers at home.
On BBC Breakfast, Charlie and Naga spoke out about the BBC’s weather app, which incorrectly showed winds of 13,508mph were set to hit London.
The hosts revealed that IT was trying to fix the error, but Charlie continued to question Carol – and fans were not too impressed.
“Are you going to fix this Carol? This has been going on for many hours now. Is anything actually happening? Are you going to fix it,” he quizzed her live on-air.
BBC Breakfast star issues apology
She replied: “Of course Charlie! Of course, we are.” Before snapping her fingers, Carol then quipped: “It is a big problem, it’s not just one that can be sorted like that.”
The beloved TV star went on: “So our technicians are working on it as fast as they can and it will be sorted as quickly as it possibly can, again our apologies on this.”
BBC Breakfast fans call out Charlie Stayt
However, fans were quick to slam Charlie for this behaviour towards Carol. On X, one angry viewer wrote: “Absolutely disgraceful by Charlie on BBC Breakfast. There’s a glitch on the app showing incorrect wind speeds.
“He shouted at Carol and demanded to know when it would be fixed. Embarrassing and petulant. He owes her an apology.”
Someone else added: “Was there really a need for Charlie Stayt to speahttps://www.entertainmentdaily.com/charlie-stayt/k to Carol Kirkwood the way he did about the weather app glitch on the last weather bulletin? I thought he was mucking about at first. Going all Paxman on a work colleague seemed a bit much.”
A third wrote: “Why are Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt always having a go at Carol Kirkwood. They might think it’s banter, but to the viewer it comes across as workplace bullying.”

Terminally ill Strictly 2024 audience member on ‘oath’ she had to make not to spill dance-off results
A Strictly 2024 audience member has opened up about what it was like behind the scenes at the live show.
This year’s series has seen the likes of Nick Knowles, Chris McCausland and Tasha Ghouri take to the dance floor.
Julie Denise Jackson had her bucket list dream of being a part of the audience at a Strictly live show come true recently.
She was heartbreakingly told she has around 12 months to live after being diagnosed with synovial sarcoma – an “incredibly rare” soft tissue cancer – in May this year.
Strictly 2024
Julie explained that she has applied to be in the Strictly audience “many times” but has “had no luck”.
When I saw all the lights and celebrities I just thought wow.
However, in June, her friend contacted the Sunderland Echo to see if they could “help to make Julie’s dream come true”.
Last week on October 5, Julie’s bucket list dream came true when a musician on Strictly managed to secure tickets for both her and her husband to see the Saturday live show. They were also able to see the recording of Sunday’s results show.
Strictly audience experience
Speaking to the Echo, Julie said: “A friend of my husband is in the orchestra on the show and was able to get two tickets for myself and Mark. I was in hospital when I got the news as I was recovering from the side-effects of my latest chemotherapy.
“When I got the news I was like a kid at Christmas. I told staff at the hospital, ‘I can’t be in here this weekend.’ They were concerned about the risk of infection. But fortunately my condition improved and I was able to travel.”
Sharing some details of the live show, Julie explained that they had to be there at 5pm and had to “swear an oath not to tell anyone about the results of the show recorded for Sunday broadcast”.
She added: “When I saw all the lights and celebrities I just thought wow. There were two members of JLS, Vernon Kay and Sam Thompson who were there to watch friends and relatives in the show.”

Julie also said she got to sit in head judge Shirley Ballas‘ chair. She added that the whole experience “exceeded my expectations”.
