BNB Chain Gets a Speed Boost, While Ethereum Struggles With Decisions

BNB Chain just got a big upgrade called the Lorentz hard fork, and it’s made the network much faster.

Here’s what’s new:

  • BNB Smart Chain (BSC) now creates new blocks every 1.5 seconds.
  • OpBNB, which helps handle more transactions, now creates blocks every 0.5 seconds—making it one of the fastest systems out there.

This means transactions go through quicker, apps work faster, and the whole system runs more smoothly. The BNB Chain team said, “Welcome everyone to experience a faster and smoother BNB Chain.”

This update comes after another upgrade called Pascal, which helped prepare the network for even better performance. Together, these updates show that BNB Chain is trying to become the best place for developers and users who want things to work quickly and cheaply.

Still, not everyone was impressed. One person joked, “Lorentz does 1.5-second blocks? Solana is already doing 0.4 seconds!”

Even with this big news, BNB’s price only went up 0.29%, and is now at $608.22.

Ethereum Takes a Slower, More Careful Path

While BNB is focused on speed, Ethereum is having trouble deciding what to include in its next big update.

Ethereum was planning to add something called EOF in its upcoming Fusaka upgrade, which would have made the system easier to build on and upgrade in the future. But now, that plan has been dropped—for now.

A member of the Ethereum Foundation said EOF won’t be included in the May 7 Pectra upgrade, and its future is still being discussed.

Another Ethereum developer, Tim Beiko, said the idea was removed because it was too complex and could cause delays. The team wants to keep things simple and not risk problems.

This kind of debate is not new for Ethereum. In the past:

  • The 2016 DAO hack caused a major split, creating Ethereum Classic.
  • The Merge, when Ethereum switched to a cleaner, energy-saving system in 2022, took years of planning and discussion.

Some developers believe removing EOF shows Ethereum is focusing more on what users want, instead of always sticking to technical plans. Others feel that without EOF, Ethereum could miss out on better improvements.

Fast vs. Careful: Two Different Styles

BNB Chain is focused on making things faster and more efficient. Ethereum, on the other hand, is moving more slowly and carefully, thinking a lot about how changes affect its community.

BNB may look more advanced for now, but Ethereum’s careful approach has helped it avoid major problems in the past.
